Maria Immacolata Vassallo de Lopes holds a degree in Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo; an MA and Ph.D. in Communication Sciences from the University of São Paulo; a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Florence, Italy. She is currently a professor at the School of Communications and Arts at USP; has experience in Communications, with emphasis on the Epistemology of Communication, Communication, and Research Methodology, acting mainly on the following topics: the communication field, reception of communication, television fiction, communication methodology. Coordinates the Center of Telenovela Studies (CETVN) and the Center of Communication Field Studies at USP. Creator and coordinator of the network of international research OBITEL (Ibero-American Observatory of Television Fiction) and network search OBITEL-Brazil. President of IBERCOM – Ibero-American Association of Communication (2012-2015). Director of MATRIZes, Magazine of the Post-Graduation in Communication Sciences at USP. Member of the Coordinating Committee of the Graduate Program in Communication Sciences at the University of São Paulo Program. She was a representative of the Communications area at the CNPq (2004-2007) and is a Member of the Board of INTERCOM Trustees as the former president of the organization. Part of the editorial board in national and international journals; published articles and books in the country and abroad in her specialties and is a CNPq 1A Researcher.

Maria Amélia Paiva Abrão holds a PhD and a Master’s Degree in Communication and Consumption Practices from PPGCOM ESPM-SP, Sandwich Doctorate (Capes PDSE) at Boston College. Vice-coordinator of the international research network OBITEL in Brazil. She is a researcher at the CNPq Research Groups: Center for Soap Opera Studies (CETVN-ECA / USP), Communication, Consumption and Sociocultural Identities (CiCO-ESPM-SP) and Innovations and Ruptures in Television Fiction (UAM). Specialist in Marketing, with an Executive MBA from ESPM-SP.
